STEM makes...

...creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators and inventors!

What is STEM?

A STEM approach to learning is where STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) are specifically connected to allow the skills taught to be applied across the subjects.  We feel passionately about the need to prepare our children to thrive in an evolving world and this includes access to STEM opportunities through both the curriculum and any additional opportunities we can provide.  These opportunities help to develop key knowledge and skills: using statistics, problem solving, creativity, reasoning, intellectual curiosity, enquiry skills, decision making and flexibility. The following presentation provides more information and has been shared with all of the pupils.

Kids Invent Stuff is the YouTube channel (as seen on The One Show, BBC News Online and Tomorrows World Live) where 5-11 year olds have the chance to get their invention ideas built by real engineers. We do this to give more primary school kids the chance to engage with real engineering projects.

Kids are encouraged to submit their ideas for inventions to solve a different challenge each month. Ideas can be submitted as drawings or videos uploaded below. The most creative inventions are showcased on our channel and each month one idea is built and tested on camera, with hilarious consequences.

We also aim to build strong links between the local community, national and global partners.  If you feel you are able to support us in this work by sharing your expertise, experiences or through connecting us with other individuals or organisations then we would love to hear from you.  Please contact Mr Alcock who leads on STEM in our school.  You can keep up to date with the latest STEM news in the blog below.
