ABOUT US
Welcome to Ilfracombe Church of England Junior School

At Ilfracombe Church of England Junior School, our ethos of “Thriving Together” is more than a motto—it’s a lived experience. We are proud to be a nurturing, inclusive community where every child is supported to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

From the moment children join us in Year 3, they are welcomed into an environment that sets high expectations and fosters respect, care, and thoughtfulness. Our dedicated staff model these values daily, helping pupils to develop positive attitudes to learning and strong relationships that last throughout their time with us.

Rooted in our Christian values and Church of England foundation, we aim to cultivate a sense of belonging, purpose, and spiritual growth in all our pupils, encouraging them to flourish as compassionate and responsible individuals.

We are especially proud of our inclusive approach. Many of our pupils face barriers to learning, and we respond with tailored support, early identification of needs, and a commitment to helping every child succeed. Our specialist provisions and skilled staff ensure that children with additional needs flourish alongside their peers.

Our curriculum is ambitious and thoughtfully designed to help pupils build strong foundations in key areas such as reading, phonics, and number fluency. We enrich learning with high-quality texts, exciting trips, and opportunities that spark curiosity and creativity. As pupils progress, they gain the confidence and resilience to tackle challenges and embrace new learning.

Beyond the classroom, we place a high priority on pupils’ mental and physical wellbeing. Our character curriculum and wide range of enrichment activities help children develop the skills and values they need to thrive in life. Pupils take pride in their roles of responsibility and are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.

We are a school where children feel safe, valued, and inspired. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do, and we are deeply committed to creating a secure and supportive environment where all children can thrive.

Our staff work collaboratively, continually developing their expertise and sharing best practices that benefit the wider community. Parents and carers recognise the difference this makes—and we do too.
We believe that strong partnerships with families are key to every child’s success. We are committed to listening, learning, and working together with parents to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.
