This week in 5RM, we looked at how materials can be mixed and the best way to separate them. We used our scientific resources to plan and implement the best ways to separate more than one material.
In our groups, we talked about the properties of each material and the size of the particles and decided on which resource would allow certain particles through but stop others.
Overall, we had a successful separating session with each group recognising that paper clips can be separated with a magnet as they are metal and magnetic; the sand and water were separated using a funnel and filter paper and the gravel was able to be separated using the sieve as it was the largest particle and wouldn’t fit through the sieve holes.
