Year 4 Become Park Rangers

Year 4 classes have been spending Wednesday afternoons as Park Rangers at Bicclescombe Park with local experts who are leading an exciting programme of activities. During the orienteering session, the children worked in groups and used maps to navigate their way to find letters and numbers hidden around the park. In last week's pond dipping lesson, they used fishing nets to scoop up the small creatures living in the stream. Their overall objective was to find out whether or not the stream is polluted by identifying the creatures they found. Among the many interesting catches were dragonfly nymphs, larvae, damselfly nymphs and freshwater shrimps. The conclusion was that the stream is quite free from pollution. Our next sessions are focusing on trees and mini-beasts where we will find out more about the flora and fauna in the park.
