Communicating in Spanish

Our focus in Spanish is on practical communication so that children can understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings.

All year groups start by developing accurate pronunciation and by learning to respond to simple classroom commands so that as much of the lessons as possible can be carried out in Spanish. We are also learning about the cultures of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.

We are learning how to have conversations, to ask and answer questions and exploring spoken language through songs, repetition and practice.

Pupil Voice:

'I think Spanish is important because I might move to Spain.'

'What I like about Spanish is that we learn how people speak in a different language.'

'I like learning Spanish because you learn new words and also, when you go to Spain or Ibiza, you can use those words.'

'I love learning Spanish because I like discovering the accent and different words.'
