Country Cousins is a family run English Language school which has been providing top quality educational experiences to junior students aged 7 to 17 since 1951.

Based in Ilfracombe, students take part in a carefully-considered programme of formal lessons, sports, leis

ure activities, evening entertainment and cultural excursions, which not only develop their English language and communications skills but also promotes self-confidence and international awareness within a healthy and safe learning environment.

Country Cousins attracts students from different countries around the world, and are the only English language school to receive a British Council award. It is already one of the world's biggest destinations for students staying with host families. Now the cost of living crisis means that people are signing up to earn a few thousand pounds extra over the summer by letting

out spare rooms.

After the last two years of closure due to foreign travel restrictions, the school has now reopened and the number of students is rising as more continue to sign up, all of which will need loving, friendly homes to stay in.

It's estimated that thousands of pounds pours into the local economy between June and August thanks to the students who stay during the summer months. The students are in town every day, using the local cafes and shops and businesses. Also benefitting are the host families who let spare bedrooms for up to four students per household. For some the money goes into a savings pot so they can afford to take their own family away on foreign holidays. This yea

r the school reports people signing up from further afield because they are worried about rising fuel bills this winter.

It's the quality of the host families that makes Ilfracombe popular. Increasingly, new families are coming on board in Combe Martin, Berrynarbor, Woolacombe, Braunton and surrounding villages. Country Cousins are looking for host families who are prepared to take on students of all ages - fro

m one week to eight weeks - offering a competitive rate of pay. Hosting a student is beneficial for all of the family. With the students coming from so many different cultures and backgrounds this opportunity helps all family members build a better understanding towards people and different cultures and is extremely rewarding.
