Year 3 Percussion Playing

In our music lessons, we have been learning about repeating patterns, known as ‘ostinato’.

We listened very carefully to a piece of music called ‘Polka’ composed by Alexander Borodin. In the recorded piece, the ostinato pattern repeated 23 times, each time with some variation in tempo or dynamics.

We had to learn the following notes to play one ostinato.

F G F G

E A E A

D B D B

C C’ C C’

In pairs, we practised playing the polka very carefully to ensure we could play each note accurately. We had to repeat the ostinato 3 times before swapping with our partner.

In the photos, you can see how we are concentrating well to do our very best, and our partners are watching carefully to check we get it right!

Well done 3CH!
